Hi! I’m your admissions counselor, Abrita. Here’s a little bit about me and what I enjoy most about UNH. I look forward to working with you!
Where is your favorite place on campus?
Hamilton Smith Hall, the heart of the College of Liberal Arts. As a liberal arts student, I spent countless hours reading and writing in that building. It quickly became a second home.
What’s your favorite thing to eat on campus?
Holloway Commons cheesy bread! Back when I was a student and only had 5–10 minutes to grab a meal, that warm, gooey cheese over soft, pillowy bread was my absolute go-to.
However, for off-campus, I highly recommend trying Bamee-- it is rated 4.9 on Google with over 300 reviews and is a hidden gem tucked in the alley within Jenkins Court.
Favorite memory at UNH?
Serving as an orientation leader for the Office of International Students and Scholars, volunteering with my housemates during International Education Week at Fairchild Hall, and working with the UNH Fellowships Office to apply for prestigious scholarships like the Marshall, Truman, and Critical Language Scholarship programs.
What makes UNH so special?
UNH is special to me not just because I earned dual degrees here in 2021, but also because my brother attended as well. While I was a student, walking across campus often meant running into classmates, staff I collaborated with, or even professors. People knew me and took the time to say hello. That sense of community, where you are seen and supported, makes UNH truly unique.
What’s your favorite UNH tradition?
U-Day!
Where did you grow up?
Born in Nepal but raised in Barrington, New Hampshire.
What college did you attend/degree earned?
I earned a B.A. in Political Science and International Affairs with a minor in English from the University of New Hampshire. I then completed an M.A. in International Education and Development from the University of Sussex, and an M.S. in Modern South Asian Studies from the University of Oxford as a Marshall Scholar.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I run a private baking account where I share creations like triple-chocolate cake, carrot cake with blueberry compote and pistachio filling, and more.
Any fun facts about yourself?
I have traveled to over 12 countries and speak four languages (English, Nepali, Korean, and Hindi). I have also dabbled in Japanese, Turkish, and Farsi.
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done in your life?
I once woke up at 3 a.m. with my dad to take a hot air balloon ride over the stunning landscapes of Cappadocia, Turkey!
